When the Headlines Fade, the Work Continues

One person said it best:
Just because something is out of the headlines doesn’t mean the fallout has stopped.
Recently, our communities faced the longest government shutdown in history. During that time, families worried about their access to healthcare, food security, and essential benefits like Social Security and pensions—things that directly impact vulnerable populations.
But let’s pause for a second and ask: Who are the vulnerable?
Too often, when people hear that word, they picture someone else—someone far removed from their own lives. But the truth is, “vulnerable” can look like your next-door neighbor who’s over 64. It can look like someone who became permanently disabled. These are not people “milking the system” or “living off tax dollars.” These are people who have contributed, cared, and now need care in return.
Meeting the Real Needs of Real People
We’re intentional about being well-rounded and well-informed.
We don’t move off rhetoric or “he said, she said.” We move based on the needs of the community.
That’s why we host Calls to Action—gatherings and outreach efforts that bring together community organizers, local agencies, and businesses to identify what our neighbors truly need and how we can respond together.
Through partnerships, we help provide and connect families to essential services like:
Housing assistance
Food and resource distribution
Health resources—real clinic connections for older adults, children, and families
Why? Because this is what the people need. This is what they’ve been asking for.
The Power of Partnership: The Access Plus Alliance
You’ve probably heard us talk about the Access Plus Alliance, and for us, it’s more than a name—it’s a commitment.
Even though THA Godmother may not directly provide every service, we partner with organizations, agencies, and companies that do. We believe in collaboration, not competition, when it comes to community care.
That’s why you’ll see us at events like our:
Uniform Giveaway
Older Adults Prom
Food and Resource Distributions
Civic Engagement Block Parties
These aren’t just events to gather people—they’re opportunities to listen, to serve, and to activate change. We’re not here just to throw a party.
We’re here to make sure the voices of the community are heard—whether the issue has been ongoing or is something new.
Be Part of the Change
Our mission is clear:
To listen to the community. To serve the community. To help build the change the community needs.
If you’re a community organizer, local business, or agency ready to partner with purpose, join us. Together, we can keep the work going—long after the headlines fade.
